About Us and Our Puppies: All of the Puppies here at Top Tails Pet Center are AKC (American Kennel Club) purebred, with certificates of Pedigree on site, showing the immediate relatives of our babies. The American Kennel Club is the Authority on dog breeds and standard, and should not be confused with other registries, such as the CKC, APR or DRA. If a puppy is AKC this assures you that all of your puppies relatives, as far back as AKC records go, are of the same breed. AKC records can date back as far as the 1800’s. The AKC does not recognize some breeds for certain reasons, and will exclude color variations of breeds that are recognized, and these things should be considered when looking at purchasing a puppy. We pride ourselves on offering the happiest, healthiest puppies available. Our puppies come from the nations finest USDA and state licensed, registered breeders that continually work on improving breed quality through better genetics and nutrition by working closely with veterinarians. Each puppy receives multiple comprehensive exams and has met all criteria for health and breed standards. Each puppy is Vet certified healthy, and has been micro chipped for lifetime identification, incase your pet was ever to get lost or stolen. We have already started with routine vaccinations, de-worming, premium puppy foods and nutritional supplements to insure the utmost health of the puppy. All of our puppies are examined by 2 Veterinarians prior to their arrival at our store, and are again examined by another Vet before they are able to go home to a new family. This is done to protect you, so that there are no unforeseen problems with the new addition to your family. Our puppies are very happy, healthy and well socialized in our special puppy nursery. They thrive on interaction with people of all ages, and they enjoy playing with each other. This is a very important part of development, keeping the puppies happy and socially adjusted. What you get with a Top Tails puppy: Our puppies come from USDA and State Licensed breeders. USDA inspects breeders a minimum of twice a year, to ensure that the breeder’s facilities and the puppies living conditions are up to Department of Agriculture’s standards. When a breeder is USDA licensed they are also required to have their kennel inspected by a Veterinarian once a year. All of our puppies have been micro chipped for lifetime identification. All of our puppies have a complete vaccination record, microchip documentation, and a 4-generation pedigree. We also give an extensive health warranty, one of the best in the country.
Here are the things to ask, and see proof of, when shopping around for a puppy, and where to locate the info: Where did this puppy come from? Available on the breeders shot records, and family tree present on the pedigree. Is it a purebred puppy? AKC certificate of Pedigree should be available. Is it micro chipped? Number located on pedigree paper, and chip enrollment form. Is the bloodline tested for hereditary diseases? DNA #’s available on pedigree paper. Does it come with a warranty, and what is it? On your sales contract. Does the person selling it know what they are talking about? Inform yourself on a few key points of a breed from different reliable sources, and ask those questions that you already know the answers to. Was the puppy raised on premium puppy food? Has the puppy been vaccinated, dewormed and Vet checked on schedule? Is the puppy, it’s housing and play area clean? Does the puppy seem happy, playful and alert? Does it comply with breed standards? If you answered no to any of the preceding, then I can assure you that you are not getting the same thing for your money that you will from us, and you should question whether or not this is how you want to begin your lifelong relationship with a new puppy. |

Why a purebred dog? Many people don’t see the necessity of purchasing a pure bred dog. “I don’t plan on showing him, he’s just a pet” they say, but at the same time are certain they want a dog that carries certain characteristics, such as non shedding, or grow to a certain size. To insure that your dog will be under 7lbs then it would have to be a pure breed. A mix could harbor any genetics, as you have no record of past relatives, and can grow far beyond the size of it’s parents and carry physical characteristics that they do not have. Mixing a non shedding dog with a regular dog, such as with the popular Cocka-Poo (cocker spaniel/ poodle mix), only bears less than a 15% chance of a puppy receiving the recessive, non-shedding gene. Simply seeing the parents of a dog will not give you any insight into what your puppy will grow into, and without papers, who’s to say they are really even the parents, and not just two random dogs if there are no vital records to prove otherwise? Be sure to educate yourself on a breed before you make a lifelong commitment to take home a puppy. At AKC.org you can find out about the breed you are interested in, and should educate yourself there before you begin your shopping.
